The first mooring on the Coventry Canal just happens to be the very start of the canal at the Coventry Basin. Under normal circumstances it is not a very popular place on the network (why else would it be a Silver Propellor location?), however this year (2021) Coventry holds City of Culture status and moorings in the basin, although still free, must be booked in advance.
There are all sorts of horror stories about travelling the 5.1/2 miles from Hawkesbury Junction to Coventry Basin but we had no problems and enjoyed a very pleasant, quiet noght in the basin and a day exploring the city.
