Bishop’s Stortford Visitor Moorings

Bishop's Stortford Visitor Moorings are at the very end of the navigation, half being before the turning point and half after. Being a pair of planks, Mark and I didn’t see the turning point until we were past it so we reversed up and backed into the winding point. This proved to be a mistake as the prevailing wind kept pushing the bow the wrong way preventing us from making the turn. A good shove with the barge poll soon sorted the problem and we were able to moor on the last free mooring.

The moorings themselves are not the best on the system being some feet lower than the towpath and accessed by steps down to a 12” (300mm) wide concrete pathway, the grass between the towpath and moorings is very little grass but a great number of stinging nettles.

That's the moaning over because despite the negatives these moorings are worth a little inconvenience as they are right in the town centre with more shops, pubs and restaurants than you can shake a stick at.

The visitor moorings are on rings.
